Broncos Announce New Head Coaches for Men's and Women's Soccer Programs
The Olds College Broncos Athletics program is thrilled to announce a restructuring of its soccer leadership, welcoming Rob Kelly as the new Head Coach for the women's program and Kuda Nyirenda as the new Head Coach for the men's program. The decision to appoint dedicated coaches for each team underscores the Broncos' commitment to elevating the soccer program and enriching the student-athlete experience.
Rob Kelly to Lead Women's Soccer
A fresh face to the Broncos, Coach Rob Kelly brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success to the women's soccer program. Kelly grew up in Medicine Hat playing soccer and was a standout player before transitioning to football where he played junior football with the Calgary Colts, and for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. After his football career, he returned to his first passion and has played soccer in the Calgary United Soccer Association for many years.
Kelly began his coaching career in 2004, and over the past two decades, he has guided numerous teams to provincial championships. His "player-first" philosophy has earned him widespread respect from both athletes and peers. Most recently, Kelly spent two seasons with the Calgary Rockies as a head coach and academy instructor, and is looking forward to starting a new journey with the Broncos.
"I am thrilled to join Olds College as the women's soccer and futsal head coach," expressed Kelly. "My vision for the program is to create a fun and exciting environment for the student athletes and will strive for success both on the pitch and within the community. My focus will be on making sure the student athletes have the best possible experience, educationally, socially and with their playing careers."
Coach Rob's vision aligns with Broncos athletics and has led to exciting welcome from the whole team.
"We are excited to officially welcome Coach Rob Kelly to our Women's Soccer and Futsal program, and to our department as a whole," said Interim Athletics Manager, Rachel Cunnigham. "Coach Kelly brings a wealth of experience as a leader in the sport, with a proven track record of developing competitive, high-performing teams while fostering a positive and supportive culture. The Broncos will benefit from his positive energy, clear communication and strong vision. We are thrilled to have Coach Kelly on board and look forward to the impact he will make in shaping the future of our program."
Kuda Nyirenda Returns to Lead Men's Soccer
The Broncos are equally excited to welcome back Kuda Nyirenda, who previously served as an assistant coach for the men's team.
"What drew me to this opportunity was the incredible potential within the program and the chance to help usher in an exciting new era for Broncos soccer." Nyirend expressed. "I'm most excited about building something meaningful from the ground up, a team with a strong identity rooted in discipline, chemistry and a need to play entertaining football. This isn't just about results — it's about creating a culture that's fluid, pressure-free and inspires pride, accountability and growth on and off the pitch."
Nyirenda's coaching experience extends far beyond his previous tenure with the Broncos, including leading teams to multiple championship appearances and coaching at SC Central Soccer Academy, Royal City Soccer Club and several successful high school programs in Edmonton and Hamilton. As a former collegiate athlete at NAIT, he brings a competitive edge and deep understanding of the student-athlete experience. His infectious energy and clear vision for the program's future are set to be an exciting addition to the men's team.
The 2025-26 soccer season kicks off in September. The Broncos are eagerly anticipating the impact both coaches will have in shaping the future success of the men's and women's soccer programs.
