Broncos Men’s Volleyball finish strong and win 3-2 over Briercrest Clippers
Olds College Broncos Men’s Volleyball took the win 3-2 (22-25, 20-25, 25-12. 25-22, 17-15 over the Briercrest College Clippers at the Ralph Klein Centre on Friday, February 25, 2022.

The first set started with a point for point exchange between the teams with service errors on both sides keeping score close. Broncos, Aidyn Phillips and Phillip Sutherland played well at the net with a big kill followed by a block that took the Broncos up by 2 points over the Clippers. Kai Wiebe and Noah Dirsten defended the Clippers side of the net well in this set while number 11, Karym Coleman had a huge kill followed up with a short serving run. Phillip Sutherland worked hard for the Broncos keeping them within one point. At the end of the set the Clippers take it 25-22.
Start of the second set saw the Clippers take a four point advantage early in the set and the Broncos call time out to re-group. Braden Bates with the service ace followed up with a great rally. Philipl Sutherland puts the ball soft in the middle, Briercrest saves, just barely and ends up winning the rally. The Briercrest Clipper take this set with a final score 25-20.
The Broncos came out hot in the third set and ready to play. The Broncos led by 8 points taking an early lead in the set with the score at 18-10. Clippers service errors allowed the Broncos to control the ball and Aidyn Phillips with a huge kill at the end saw the Broncos win the set 25-12 over the Clippers.
The Broncos continued to lead into the fourth set. A huge rally saw great back and forth but ultimately the Broncos took the point. Karym for the Clippers had two big plays and gained two points for Briercrest. Phillip Sutherland and Reed Grusing for the Broncos are playing well at the net. Cole Johnson entered the game for the Clippers with a service ace and tied up the set. Braden Bates and Thomas Pugsley playing strong at the net together too. Karym Coleman for the Clippers keeping this a tight set. The Broncos win the fourth set 25-22 taking the game to a fifth set.
The final set was intense and long with a close scoreboard and great rallies between the teams. The Broncos are able to edge out the Clippers at the end with a score of 17-15.
The player of the game for the Briercrest College Clippers was number 11, Karym Coleman and the player of the game for the Broncos was number 9, Reed Grusing. Catch the Broncos again on Saturday, February 26, 2022 as they take on the Briercrest Clippers again at home. The Women play at 6 p.m. with the men to follow at 8 p.m.
