Broncos Women’s Basketball falls to Lions at home

Olds, AB 

The Ambrose Lions women's basketball team won over the Olds College Broncos with a score of 74-65 on Saturday, February 5,2022 at the Ralph Klein Centre. 

The Ambrose Lions come out strong with Nya Gach working hard both defensively and offensively. Broncos Ali Taylor and Nya Gach seem to be a great match on the court while number 7, Haylee-Jo Heggie working hard to tighten the gap for the Broncos. A huge buzzer beater for Marin Barkley from the Lions leads to a score of 24-11 at the end of the quarter. 

The Broncos struggled to settle into the game but saw hard work from the Heggie sisters with number 12, Tray-Lyn Fox hitting the court on a mission.Some great offensive work from number 4, Ellen Tiessen and 10, Marin Barkey leading the Lions to a 23 point quarter. Mackenzie Hooson and Amelia Furst helped out the Broncos offensively. The Lions led 47-25 heading into halftime. 

The third quarter is where the Broncos started showing up and for the first time in the game outscored the Lions and worked very hard to close the gap. The Lions were still ahead at the end of the third quarter by 62-43. 

The Olds College Broncos finally showed up in the final quarter and worked hard as a team to tighten the gap. Finally tying the game at 62-62 with 3:50 still left on the clock. Haylee-Jo Heggies scored a big three to propel the Broncos ahead of the Lions. The final minutes of the game were ripe with excitement with the Lions Ellen Tiessen scoring the final free throws putting the Lions ahead by 9 points. 

The player of the game forthe Ambrose Lions was number 10, Marin Barkey and the player of the game for the Broncos was number 7, Haylee-Jo Heggie. Catch Broncos Women's Basketball at home February 18, 2022 as we recognize graduating student-athletes and host the RDP Queens at 6 p.m.
