Broncos drop home match to Clippers

On December 1 the Briercrest Clippers (12-1) increased their ACAC south division lead, knocking off the Olds College Broncos (0-13) in straight sets.

Mia Harder led the Clippers charge with 10 kills while teammate Janae Rapley pitched in with nine. Meanwhile Megan Gleddie and Victoria Ringuette each pitched in for the Broncos with seven.

The first was dominated by the Clippers from the onset, using their relentless net front presence en-route to a 25-9 first set win.

The Broncos calmed down their game in the second set, sticking with the Clippers, trading points until the teams found themselves locked at 17 points. The Broncos would win the next two in a row from there, taking a 19-17 lead and forcing a Clippers timeout.

The Broncos continued their strong second set play, and with a 24-22 lead were able to take the set after a Victoria Ringuette tip fooled the Briercrest defense.

The Briercrest hitters again came out in full force in the third set, jumping out to a quick 13-8 lead to force a Broncos timeout. Briercrest took control from that point on, winning four of the next six points to take a 17-10 lead. The Clippers would win eight of the next 11 points to comfortably take the third set 25-13.

The Clippers came out swinging in the third set, jumping ahead to an 11-1 lead as the Broncos took a timeout in an attempt to settle the troops.

While the Broncos played better following the timeout, they found themselves down 24-12, and a ball off the hands of Ringuette would give Briercrest the victory.

The two teams will take to the court again tomorrow after noon at 1 P.M at the Ralph Klein Center for both teams final game of 2017.
