The Olds College Broncos brought home some hardware from the 2024 ACAC Men's Futsal Championship in Lac la Biche, earning the bronze medal after defeating the Ambrose University Lions 11-2 on Sunday.

Liam Parsons had a hat trick to lead the Broncos, while Dilan Vargas and Simon Puddicombe each added a pair, and Cristian Zorro, Oliver Azeredo, Alex Gutierrez and Lawer Amartey rounded out the Olds College scoring, with Tristen Fraser picking up the win in goal. For the Lions, Aris Cruz scored both goals.

The medal is the first for the Broncos' men's futsal program since capturing ACAC bronze in the 2018-19 season.

Ambrose jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the opening minute of the contest, but Puddicombe tied the match at 1-1 with five minutes left in the first half. Amartey and Parsons each scored in the final minute of the opening half to put the Broncos up 3-1 through 25 minutes, and the offensive outburst continued early in the second half as goals from Puddicombe, Parsons and a pair from Vargas in a span of 5:45 broke the game open for the Broncos as they took a 7-1 lead, then kept building on it after Zorro scored from half-court, Gutierrez scored from his own end, and Azeredo got on the board before Parsons completed his hat trick.

The Broncos' path to bronze was not an easy one, as it opened with a 4-2 loss to the Keyano College Huskies and a 6-2 loss to the Portage College Voyageurs on Friday. Saturday saw the Broncos defeat the Lakeland College Rustlers 3-2 in a quarterfinal where Vargas scored the game-winner with a minute left in the second session of extra time. The victory set up a rematch with the Huskies, where the Broncos would fall 7-2 to the eventual ACAC champions.

Following the conclusion of play, Puddicombe and Azeredo were named to the Second All-Tournament Team, with Pedro Noschang, who was named the ACAC South Men's Futsal Player of the Year on Saturday. joining them on the Second Team.
