Broncos lose tough fought game to Trojans

The SAIT Trojans (7-0-1) managed to remain undefeated on the season on Saturday afternoon in Olds, taking down the Broncos 3-1 (2-5-1) at Normie Kwong Field.

William Akio led the Trojans early on, picking up the opening goal of the match 19 minutes into the contest. Off a deflection, the ball came to Akio who sent a rocket of a shot into the far side of the net, then performed some acrobatics on the field celebrating the 1-0 lead.

Akio struck again at the 26th minute of the game. Off of a free kick, Akio once again smashed a clean shot into the net to give the Trojans a two goal lead.

10 minutes later Jake Walmsley increased the visitors lead to three. Off of a corner kick Walmsley was able to find the ball after a mad scramble in front, getting the ball behind Julio Meirelles.

It looked like that would be how the first half ended, but in the 45th minute, just before expiration of the half, Mario Gromenida converted on the Broncos first shot of the game, giving the home team life, down 3-1 going into halftime.

While the Broncos fought hard late, the Trojans managed to hold on for the 3-1 win.

Romel Ayerdis was awarded player of the game for SAIT while Nicolas Depot was given the honour for the Broncos.

The Broncos will be in action again next weekend when they travel to Medicine Hat to play the Rattlers on Saturday at 4 P.M. Meanwhile the Trojans travel to Lethbridge for a 2 P.M start.
