Olds, Alta. - A late goal in the first half allowed the Lethbridge College Kodiaks to seize control, defeating the Olds College Broncos 2-1 at Richardson Pioneer Field on Sunday.

Jimmy Bukuru and Wilson Nitgnee scored for the Kodiaks (1-1-0), while Anthony Focker (Olds, Alta.) replied for the Broncos.

Kohl Wandyka made five saves for Lethbridge, while Ryan Murphy (Edmonton, Alta.) turned aside three Kodiak opportunities.

Lethbridge opened the scoring in the ninth minute, as Bukuru took a nice cross in front of the net and redirected the ball past Murphy to give the Kodiaks the one-goal edge.

The Broncos answered four minutes later, as Abu Bangura (Calgary, Alta.) made a clever run into the Kodiaks box, then found Focker in front of the net, and he made no mistake in levelling the score at 1-1.

However, the Kodiaks took the lead for good heading into the half as Ntignee broke into the 18-yard box and fired the ball past Murphy on the far side to send Lethbridge to halftime up 2-1.

From there, the match was contested tighter on both sides, with neither giving the other an inch.

Ushindi Mutabazi (Edmonton, Alta.) was named The Pit Broncos Player of the Game, while Kenzel Aarts-Roman was Lethbridge's player of the game.

The Broncos will try to crack the win column at home next weekend as they face off with the Red Deer College Kings on Saturday at 2 p.m., followed by the Lakeland College Rustlers on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Meanwhile, Lethbridge will travel to Medicine Hat next Sunday to battle the Rattlers at 2 p.m.
