OLDS, Alta. - No matter how many times the Olds College Broncos tried to get away, the Red Deer College Kings had an answer.

Both teams battled hard in an entertaining contest, and a late goal by the Kings produced a 3-3 draw at Richardson Pioneer Field on Saturday.

Mario Fabian Gromenida (Formosa, ARG) scored twice for the Broncos (0-2-1) en route to capturing The Pit Player of the Game honours, while Abu Bangura (Calgary, Alta.) also got on the board.

Pedro Humberto Mourao Neto, Theoren Gill, and Kyle Bett answered for the Kings (1-0-1).

Ryan Murphy (Edmonton, Alta.) made a pair of saves for Olds, while Red Deer's Jacob Hamilton was busy, making eight stops.

The festivities got started in the 14th minute, as Gromenida connected on a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box, beating Hamilton to his right to give the Broncos the early one-goal cushion.

Red Deer didn't waste any time fighting back, as a crossing attempt less than a minute later made its way out to Humberto, and he made no mistake on the strike to draw level.

Gromenida restored Olds' lead just four minutes later, taking advantage of the Kings not being set on a free kick and again beating Hamilton to his right, giving the Broncos a 2-1 lead going into halftime.

Red Deer would again get even in the 57th minute, as a low strike from Gill from about 30 yards out bounced a couple times before beating Murphy to his right, tying the game at 2-2.

The Broncos would claim the lead a third time in the 72nd minute, as Jacob McLarney (Edmonton, Alta.) stole the ball from Red Deer's Matthew Elphick, then beat him wide before crossing to Bangura, who finished off the play in front of the net to make it 3-2 for Olds.

However, the Kings ensured they wouldn't leave empty-handed, as a free kick from Bett from just inside midfield had eyes, beating Murphy for the final tally of the afternoon.

The Broncos will look to build on their first point of the season when they host the Lakeland College Rustlers on Sunday at 2, while Red Deer heads to Calgary to face the SAIT Trojans, also on Sunday at 2.
