The Olds College Broncos (2-2-0) men's soccer team defeated the University of Alberta, Augustana Vikings (0-4-0) 6-2 in a scrappy Broncos Home Opener Sunday, Sept. 15.

The Broncos Men got a goal 10 minutes into the game via newcomer Nigel Stebanuk who had put strong pressure on Augustana several times with his fast runs to start the game. Returning All-Conference Fabian Gromenida  gave Nigel a beautiful lead run and Stebanuk made no mistake and powered around the goalie and deposited the ball into the back of the net. 

Augustana responses shortly with a similiar goal where Jaeden Norton got around Broncos goalie Ryan Murphy and shot into the open net. 

With 16 minutes left in the half Ushindi Mutabazi gave a great feed to Stebanuk just inside the half and Stebanuk took the ball to the net and scored. 

Augustana responded a few minutes later with a goal by Qais Alizada.

The Broncos outshot Augustana 16-2 in the first half with Augustana goalie Kaiser Hauber making six saves.

The second half started with Augustana putting the pressure on Olds, but the Olds defense didn't break. 

Eighteen minutes into the second half Gromenida got a pass from Stebanuk and dribbled the ball from half field and lobbing a ball over the keeper. Just a few minutes later Gromenida left the game with his second yellow card off a challenge on a ball.

Down a man, the Broncos pushed back and Stebanuk scored seconds later with a goal that almost identically mirrored Gromenida's, taking a pass from Jackson Schulz-Kingsley and taking the ball up the field and pounding the ball into the net. 

With eight minutes left Schulz-Kingsley gave a nice through pass to Luiz Guimaraes who dribbled around three defenders before passing the ball to Garren Oosterhuis who quickly shot the ball across the Augustana goalkeeper net and into the net. That was the rookies second goal in as many games. 

Stebanuk put the exclamation on the game as injury time began by taking a feed from Mutabazi down the centre of the field and dribbling around the goalie and putting the ball into the open net.

Player of the Game for Augustana was Paul Lovsin and the Pit Barbecue Player of the Game for the Broncos was Nigel Stebanuk.

Shots were 25-6 for Olds with Olds goalie Ryan Murphy making two saves and Augustana's Hauber making eight saves.
