Broncos light up St. Mary's, pick up first win of the year

OLDS- On November 11 the Olds College Broncos (1-3) dominated their home opener, defeating the St. Mary's University Lightning (3-2) 81-53 at the Ralph Klein Center.

Brittany Thibeaux showed off the reason why she's the ACAC leader in points per game, scoring 34 in this affair while adding 15 rebounds.

Thibeaux wasn't the only stellar competitor for the Broncos. Each Broncos player who hit the floor made an impact in the win as the home team shot 51% from the floor, to which the Lightning had no answer.

Thibeaux got off to a quick start in Saturday's contest, filling the basket early and often for 10 points in the first quarter to
give her team a 19-14 lead.

The Broncos continued their hot play into the second half. Thibeaux made a quick bucket followed by scores from Alice-Fay Pitts and then a three point
ball from Madison Simmonds to extend the Broncos lead to ten.

The Lightning however would pose a comeback late in the quarter, going into the locker room down 34-30.

'Give Thibeaux the ball and see what she can do with it' seemed to be the Broncos third quarter strategy. Thibeaux added another 14 points in the quarter as the Broncos pulled away from the Lightning. St. Mary's failed to gain any momentum late in the game, unable to match the torid speed of the Broncos guards.

The Broncos will look for their second consecutive win next Friday night at 6 P.M. as Lethbridge visits Olds. Meanwhile the Lightning will return home to host Briercrest next Friday with tip-off slated for 6 P.M.
