On Thursday evening in Olds the Olds College Broncos (8-4), who have now claimed eight of their past nine games, took down the Red Deer College Queens (5-7) in dramatic fashion, winning 71-70.

Brittney Thibeaux continued her stellar season, claiming player of the game honours for the Broncos while scoring 31 points on 12-14 shooting. She also led the Broncos with 17 rebounds.

Kristina Bajovic had a great game for the Broncos as well, scoring 14 points including two essential three pointers in the fourth quarter.

Mary Krause was the best player on the court for the Queens, registering 10 points in 24 minutes of action.

The Queens outside shooting kept them in the contest in the first quarter despite only shooting for 29% from the field compared to the Broncos 69%. The Queens knocked down three shots from beyond the arc to hold off the Broncos onslaught as the home team went into the second quarter up 20-15.

Thibeaux led the Broncos in points in the first, making all four of her shots for 10 points.

The Broncos began the second quarter on a 16-1 run, as Michaela Allen-Gullion made her presence known by knocking down three quick field goals, including a three pointer.

The Queens managed to keep pace with the Broncos in the late stages of the second, going into the break down 45-27. 

The Queens came to play out of the break, quickly filling up the hoop as the Broncos suffered from the turnover bug- turning it over 18 times through the first three quarters of action.

However, the Broncos were able to nearly keep pace in the third and after the third quarter the Broncos held a 61-48 lead.

The Queens would pose a comeback in the final frame, going on a 20-10 run to get within just three points of the Broncos with a minute remaining.

The Queens had two straight possessions with chances to cut the lead to one or potentially even draw even, but a missed shot and a steal by Kristina Bojavik gave the Broncos the ball with eleven seconds remaining.

After fouling Bojavic, Alice-Fay Pitt's inbound was knocked right back at her by a defender. Pitts caught the batted ball, giving the Queens possession with 10 seconds remaining.

Unable to get a solid shot attempt from beyond the arc, Eva Bonde made a layup to get within one, but with under a second left the Broncos would inbound the ball safely to secure a one-point victory.
