Broncos win 72-54; clinch spot in ACAC Championship

The Olds College Broncos (13-5) won their fifth straight game, and 15th in their last 17, on Friday evening against the Briercrest Clippers (4-14) by the score of 72-54. The commanding win punches the Broncos ticket to the 2017-18 ACAC Championship, as the team appears to be peaking at the right time.

A solid second quarter both offensive and defensively led the twelfth ranked team in the country to victory. Stand-out players on the evening were Alice-Fay Pitts, Michaela Allen-Gullion and Brittney Thibeaux, with lots of parity between the starters as far as both points and rebounds go.

The Broncos got off to a slow start to the first quarter, scoring only three points in the first five minutes, but quickly bounced back as Michaela Allen-Gullion and Alice-Fay Pitts both connected on three pointers to put the Broncos ahead 13-10 after the first quarter.

The Broncos opened the second quarter on a 13-2 run, as Brittney Thibeaux, Allen-Guillion, Alice-Fay Pitts led the way with seven each as the Clippers took a timeout down 26-12.

The Broncos controlled the last few minutes of the half, allowing just one more point to go into half time up 33-13.

Though the Clippers came out of the gate hot in a more offensively played third quarter, they were matched time and time against down the court by the Broncos, who finished the third with a 56-35 lead.

The Broncos would give their starters some rest and would cruise the rest of the way, claiming the contest 72-54.

Hope Jordens won The Pit player of the game for the Clippers while Allen-Gullion won the award for the Broncos.
