Broncos extend first half lead against Lethbridge

Olds College Broncos women's basketball team defeated the Lethbridge College Kodiaks 109-58 in the Parent Appreciation Game Friday, Nov. 15 at the Ralph Klein Centre.

The Broncos went on a 7-0 run to start the game with Brandi Thibeaux. The Broncos went on several extended runs after each Lethbridge basket to extend the lead to 23-4 with four minutes left in the quarter. The teams exchanged baskets to end the quarter at 35-16 for the Broncos.

The Broncos opened the scoring in the second quarter, including a Brittney Thibeuax three pointer to extend the Broncos lead to 40-16 before Lethbridge scored a pair of free throws. The Broncos then went on several short four point and six point runs to extend their lead to 54-22. The teams exchanged baskets, bring the score to 68-38 at halftime.

Lethbridge got the first basket of the second half before Brittney Thibeaux responded with a free throw sandwiched between two layups to bring the Broncos to a 73-40 lead. Brittney Thibeaux followed that up with a nice jump shot to extend the lead. Halfway through the quarter the Broncos continued to build up their lead up to 83-46 before the teams started exchanging points until the 2:00 minute mark when Macyn Morning Bull stepped up to make the score 88-49 for Olds. Michaela Allen-Gullion hit a three-pointer to extend the lead to 93-49 after three quarters.

The Broncos continued where they left off in the fourth quarter, scoring nine unanswered points to extend the lead to 102-49 after four minutes. Lethbridge got the next two baskets to make the score 102-54. The teams then exchanged baskets

Player of the game for Lethbridge was Brook Baker with 11 points and a game high 10 rebounds and the Pit Barbecue Player of the Game for the Broncos was Macyn Morning Bull with 20 points and eight rebounds.

The Broncos led the game in rebounds 36-33, assists 22-11, blocks 3-0, and steals 18-5. Brittney Thibeaux had a game high 29 points and two blocks, Alli Taylor had a game high 10 rebounds and seven steals, and Brandi Thibeaux and Alice-Fay Pitts had a game high six assists for the Broncos.

The Broncos host SAIT Saturday, Nov. 23 for Staff and Faculty Appreciation Night. Game time is 6:00 pm.
