Broncos drop Saturday evening match in straight sets
Ambrose too much for the Broncos
OLDS- On November 25 the Olds College Broncos (0-12) dropped their match against the Ambrose Lions (6-6) in straight sets (25-9, 25-17, 25-14).
Willow Lewington led the Lions charge with 12 kills for a 61% hitting percentage. Shaelynne Roux was the best hitter for the Broncos on Friday evening making five kills on 10 attempts.
The Lions dominated the first set over the Broncos. Olds had no answer for the relentless net-front presence from Ambrose, and made more than a few unforced errors as the Lions cruised to a 25-9 first set win.
The Broncos sloppy play continued into the second set, dropping four of the first five points, two of which on unforced errors. Madyson Kerr had her way with the Broncos hitters for the duration of the set, making great digs from the libero position.
The teams exchanged points as Ambrose would take a 15-10 lead into a Broncos timeout. The Broncos would make their way back into the set following the timeout, with Shaelynne Roux making a big kill to get the Broncos within one down 16-15.
A few bad passes and sloppy play would spell the end of the Broncos chances, as the Lions would take nine out of the next 11 points to take the second set 25-17.
The Lions continued their strong play into the third set, again quickly jumping out to a 15-10 lead. The Lions would proceed to take the next six points for a commanding 21-10 lead.
With a 24-14 lead, an error by the Broncos would give the Lions the match in straight sets.
Willow Lewington was given player of the game honours for the Lions while Roux was given player of the game for the Broncos in a losing effort.
