Broncos drop final match of 2017

On December 2 the Olds College Broncos (0-14) dropped their final match of 2017, losing in four sets to the Briercrest Clippers (13-1) (19-25, 25-22. 25-15, 25-15).

The Broncos came out of the gate hot, jumping ahead to a quick 13-8 lead behind solid passing from the backcourt. Out of a timeout, the Clippers front court struggled to connect on their hits, allowing the Broncos to take a 21-13 lead.

Samantha Zacharias would go on a run of her own from that point, helping the Clippers win four of the next six to only be down 23-17.

A few points later though Victoria Ringuette would smash a ball down to give the Broncos a 25-19 first set win.

The Clippers started off the second set looking more like themselves, jumping out to a 14-8 lead to force a Broncos timeout. The Clippers would eventually take the set 25-22.

The Clippers continued their strong play into the third, taking a 2-1 lead by winning the third set 25-15.

Samantha Zacharias showed off why she is a perennial all-star in the fourth set, continuing to pound ball after ball down into the court, to eventually finish the game with a game-high 22 kills, nearly triple any other Clipper on the court. The Clippers would eventually win the set 25-15, to take the match in four sets.
