Queens pick up 10th win, dropping Broncos in straight sets

In the first game of 2018, the Red Deer College Queens (10-3) continued their winning ways at the Olds Sportsplex, taking down the Olds College Broncos (0-15) in straight sets (25-15, 25-18, 25-14).

McKenna Barthel was a force to be reckoned with for the Queens, finishing the match with a team leading 12 kills. Meanwhile Megan Gleddie led the Broncos with five.

While the Broncos managed to stay close early, unforced errors would quickly led to a Landon Thompson timeout with his team down 12-6.

Miranda Dawe had her way with the Broncos; late in the set hammering down a kill to give the Queens a 19-9 lead as Red Deer dominated the first set, winning 25-15.

The Broncos rallied hard in the second set, exchanging points until the Queens once again took over, winning four of the next six to take a 13-9 lead, forcing an Olds timeout.

The Queens would cruise the rest of the way, taking the second set 25-18.

Red Deer College would get off to a flying start in the third, claiming the first seven points, leading to a Broncos timeout.

The Queens dominated the rest of the way, taking the final set 25-14.

The teams will face-off against each other once again tomorrow evening at 6 P.M., once again at Olds College.
