Queens down Broncos in straight sets

The Olds College Broncos (0-16) dropped their second game in as many nights to the Red Deer College Queens (11-3) at home on Saturday evening in Olds, losing in straight sets (25-21, 25-15, 25-19).

Miranda Dawe led the Queens with 11 kills on the evening while Victoria Ringuette and Karley Dieken both had five in a losing effort.

The teams were competitive early in the contest, exchanging points all the way up to a 9-9 tie. However, the Queens would win three straight points leading to a Broncos timeout.

The Broncos looked composed out of the break, with Jordan schewchuk serving for two straight Olds points, but the veteran Queens would respond with back to back points of their own to regain the three point lead.

The back and fourth match continued, as the Broncos would win the next three to knot the game back up at 15.

However, scrambly play would be the demise of the Broncos as the Queens would take the set 25-21.

The second set went by much like the first, close at the start but the Queens would eventually pull away, up 13-8 as the Broncos took a timeout.

The Broncos were unable to rally from the timeout, dropping eight of the next 10 points to fall behind 20-11. A few points later the Queens claimed the set 25-15.

The Queens dominated the third set, flying ahead, once again by the score of 20-11, on their way to a 25-19 win.

Olds will travel to Calgary next weekend for a set against Ambrose while Red Deer will return home to face SAIT.
