OLDS, Alta. - The Olds College Broncos put forth a valiant effort from the opening serve, though they ultimately fell in four sets to the Ambrose University Lions in a competitive match at the Ralph Klein Centre on Saturday.

Emily Zaleschuk (Alvena, Sask.) put forth a strong performance on both sides of the ball for the Broncos (0-6), finishing with 11 kills and 11 digs, while Janeen Pellatt (Yorkton, Sask.) added nine kills and three aces of her own.

Samantha Laboucan (Atikameg, Alta.) also turned in a solid performance for Olds College, finishing with eight kills and five digs.

Willow Lewington and Ali Leskow each had eight kills to lead Ambrose (5-2), while Lewington also contributed five digs. Madeline Williscroft and Jeena Johner added teeth to the Lions attack, as they finished with seven kills each.

The Lions jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the opening set, establishing momentum quickly and seeing it through for a 25-15 victory to take the one-set lead.

Though certainly closer in nature, the second set also went the way of the Lions as they took it 25-20.

The Broncos fought back in the third, turning in a strong performance before a boisterous home crowd to cut the deficit to one set after a convincing 25-17 victory.

The match seemed destined to go the distance for a time, as the Broncos held a 21-19 lead late in the fourth set. However, the Lions would claw back and ultimately take the match with a 26-24 victory.

Zaleschuk was named The Pit BBQ Player of the Game for the Broncos, while Lewington took the honour for the Lions.

Olds College will stay home for its next match, as they take on the Red Deer College Queens on Thursday, November 8 at 6 p.m., while Ambrose will welcome the SAIT Trojans on Friday, November 9 at 6 p.m.
